Keep Daniel medicated and offline
Donation protected
I'm Daniel. I'm tall, I live in Brooklyn, and my chief exports are tweets about Andrea Martin and websites. Last January, Vox Media laid me off, one of 7% of workers in one of three mass layoffs. It was sad, and disappointing, but mostly just a nuisance.
A year and two months later, with tech hiring still slow, my benefits have run out, and a nuisance is becoming an emergency.
Chronic depression and PTSD used to dominate my life. There were periods when I struggled to hold down a job or keep up with school, stretches of time when I ricocheted between hospitals, and lots of the little losses that come with any chronic illness. The past few years have been different—steadier, happier, and fuller. Along with time and work, this takes a modest battery of psychopharmacological weapons. Without insurance, I can't afford them.
If "donate or I'm going to the hospital" is too dramatic, when I'm properly medicated, I don't tweet as much.
Out of pocket and uninsured, $500 covers a month of prescriptions that I'd otherwise be unable to refill. This is the second month without new work or Medicaid landing. My life with treatment looks very different from my life without it. Thank you for helping me holding that line.
