Keep Elizabeth in her home and cover basic needs
Donation protected
My name is Elizabeth, and I am a single mom. I am a survivor of domestic violence and a physically disabled person. I am fighting to stay in my home. I am being harassed by my property manager, as they are trying to force me to leave as soon as possible in order to renovate my home and bring in higher income tenants.
We are raising this money to help cover some of my basic needs while I navigate this situation, such as rent, phone and wifi bills, gas, medicine, groceries, and for assistance to help me if I need to move my things. I do not have income due to my disabilities and the stress of this situation is having a major impact on my health.
I am also sharing my story to expose the reality of what is happening in Redwood City. The harassment and evictions are like a secret; for many of us, it’s happening in silence because we are terrified of losing our place to live. In my eight years in this apartment, I have experienced the worst treatment and conditions in my life. The previous and current owners and property managers:
• Have failed to repair the unit to a reasonable standard. When I moved in and the toilet was overflowing with sewage into the hallway, they told me to rent a carpet cleaner from Home Depot to clean it up. When the water heater broke, they told me to use crab pots to boil water so that I could take showers
• They tried to evict me in court 3 times for having too many plants
• They refused to accept my rent payments
• They illegally entered my apartment while my son was sleeping
• They have verbally threatened to tow my vehicle and take away my backyard at any time
• They are consistently coming to my home to leave signs, letters, and coming with workers to interrupt my peace and pressure me to leave
The property managers and owner are taking advantage of me because I am low income, disabled and a single mom supporting my child. The root of this whole situation is greed.
Thank you for donating and fighting with me to stop this abuse. Being harassed by your landlord is very scary and stressful. I am constantly worrying about them coming and bothering me. We must all be protected.
