Hi everyone,
On November 21st, I'll be running the Harborside Half Marathon in Newburyport. It's been some time since I've pushed past the usual 5K run around the neighborhood and surprisingly, I'm still going.
I'd like to share a personal story and kindly ask that if you are keen to donate some of your spare change this year, there is a charity I'd like to recommend.
Back in 1985, at the age of 9, I had the pleasure of being a sister to Andrea Giglio. Andrea was born with a congenital heart defect. There was a small hole in her heart and her blood flow was abnormal. While Andrea seemed like a normal little baby, her heart wasn't and eventually she needed an artificial heart at the age of 6 months. Unfortunately, Andrea's surgery was not successful and she passed very early in her life.
Modern technology has greatly improved the life expectancies of children born with congenital heart defects. The Children's Heart Foundation is an organization that has raised over $14M to fund congenital heart defect research and scientific collaborations.
My goal is to raise $1500 for The Children's Heart Foundation to Keep Hearts Running and my company will match dollar for dollar. I keep Andrea in my heart always and want to help other children and families dealing with child heart defects. Thank you all for taking the time to read my story.
Katie
