Keep Kate's Family Together!

Donation protected
(Hi, I’m Stephen, Kate’s partner. Kate asked me to help her write a description for her GoFundMe when I suggested she make one. We thought I should also clarify who’s speaking to you, since it seems like Kate is writing about herself in the third person.)

This is Kate. She's a Ukrainian woman who has lived in Berlin for three years.

In the early morning of the 24th of February, Kate's parents heard something whistle as it flew over their family home. One second later, they heard an explosion far in the direction of the projectile. At this moment, Kate's mother and father knew that Russia had finally invaded their homeland. There was no time to pack, no time to prepare. They had to get out of Kyiv.

Weeks passed full of stressful days and sleepless nights until Kate was finally reunited with her family in Berlin. Kate's mother joined her with their two pets, while her father went to another country to support Ukraine in his own way.

Kate is thankful every day that her family is safe and away from the warzone, but the stress of becoming refugees has only just begun. Her mother speaks only Russian and Ukrainian and has little to no options for finding a job here in Germany. This means Kate will have to support her family on her own, something she wasn't expecting to do already at 26 years old!

Kate has (somehow) managed to find an apartment here in Berlin for her mother, her pets, and herself, but the process of moving in and finding furniture will be time-consuming and expensive. On top of this, Kate works on a contract that is subject to change depending on how many hours she works. This past month of supporting her family alone has almost depleted Kate's financial cushion and she has barely found time to work her regular day job. Frankly, she's running out of money fast.

Therefore she asks for your help in keeping her family safe. Your donations will go towards:

- Rent (Kate is moving from a 20-meter dormitory into a two bedroom apartment, so her rent and expenses has more than doubled)

- Furniture for the new apartment (Kate's previous apartment came furnished–she can't bring anything with her to the new place)

- Supporting her mother (she hopes to find a job for her mother soon, but they're not sure what their options are now)

- Supporting their pets (they have a small dog and a cat, who they love so much they could never abandon!)

- Supporting her father (there is a chance he will have to come to Germany as well)

If you're wondering if this is the best way to show your support, we ask that you consider this...
Since before the invasion began, Kate has been working with local Ukrainian activist groups who have done incredible work to support Ukraine and its people (check them out here and here ). She has worked tirelessly to procure thousands of euros in funding and she will continue to do so as long as her help is needed.

We set a high goal with high hopes, but we encourage you to help out in any way you can. Whether it's €10 or €1000, anything helps! Thank you!
