Keep Kids’ Bikes Rolling
Kids are hard on their bikes. They wear out tires, blow tubes, trash chains, and generally ding up the whole thing. New bikes are expensive, and even easy fixes can be pricey to get repaired. What if kids had the skills and supplies to care for their bikes so that they last longer and perform better? That’s a passion we are hoping to inspire.
True Wheels is planning to give Calgary kids an opportunity to learn the necessary bike maintenance skills to keep their bikes tuned-up and rolling for many years. Handling the common fixes like flat tires and broken chains builds confidence, which adds to the fun of riding bikes!
True Wheels will host a free bike maintenance workshop in early summer 2022, for kids age 11-17, in Northeast Calgary. Our goal is to generously empower and equip these novice bike mechanics. The event will include a fun bike course, the aforementioned maintenance workshop, and lunch. Each participant will receive their own maintenance kit. (Including a quality multi-tool, chain/gear brush, tire levers, tire tube, air pump, cleaning spray etc. ~$125 value) Bikes and helmets will be provided for kids participating who don’t have either or both.
Our ultimate goal is for this event to be the first of many investments into our Calgary community.
We’d love for you to partner with us. Here’s how you can help:
• Donations through GoFundMe
• Can & Bottle Recycling
• Collect your and your neighbours' empty beverage containers and drop them off at our location.
• Donate a Bike (or more)
• Do you have a bike that is in good condition that you aren’t using? We’ll take it and give it to a youth who doesn’t have one.
• As well, we will refurbish and sell some of these bikes to raise money
• Tell Your Friends
Note: If you plan to drop off cans and bottles or a used bicycle, please email Aaron here
