Keep Koi Afloat & Fundraiser Show!

The moment is now upon us to take a step back and look around at the current state of the music scene in YYC! People, if you are looking at this situation properly you will notice that doors are being permanently shut to music establishments left and right, and mixing boards next to signs that says “Live Music Here” are failing to whir to life. Times have never been bleaker for the intimate experience of live music and we can’t speak for everyone but I think most of us long for such experiences for the goodness of our souls. It’s culture my friends!
We need to highlight and really not understate the significance in the potential loss the Local YYC Music Community may have to face, if an essential pillar like Koi ceases to be a safe haven for authentic artists alike. In other words if we don’t appreciate lady music herself now, in full attendance at this one time show, we will have another live music venue, the special and endlessly nurturing Koi, be swallowed up into the corporate abyss! So buckle up music lovers because if there was ever a time to show your support while simultaneously attending history in the making with one of the most stacked music line ups ever to exist in YYC… it’s the Koi Fundraiser Life or Death show.
Many of the artists playing are products of Koi one way or another finding humble beginnings on Koi’s modest stage. Since then, these artists have evolved into lessons on musicality but only those watching this evolving community closely, will understand the significance that that 8ft x 3ft stage has had in putting Calgary on the map for a noteworthy, young, genuine, electric and soulful music scene. So whether you have been around since the beginning or are just arriving to the party, the night will not disappoint and the future promises more priceless gems of artistic consciousness cultivating in none other than the intimate venue on 10th and 1st Street SW.
Koi is having this fundraising show as a proactive foot forward in battling the looming trend of iconic music venues disappearing overnight in our great city.
The money raised here (gofundme) and at our fundraiser concert (September 2nd at Festival Hall in Inglewood) Will go towards creating a cushion in the business that will ensure we do not have to close our doors, providing artists with better payment, and investing into new music equipment to better host the creative expression within these walls!
Koi loves you! Love Koi back <3
