David and Vanessa have been a devoted couple for over a decade, but life has thrown them some heartbreaking challenges. Vanessa lost her job twice—first early in the year and then again in November of 2023, crushing their financial stability. Five days after Thanksgiving, Vanessa suffered the heartbreaking loss of her mother, Silvia, who battled dementia for eight years. The grief, compounded by painful family disputes, has left Vanessa emotionally and financially drained. The job market has been brutally tough despite her tireless efforts—volunteering in her professional community, networking, and applying to countless jobs with updated resumes.

With unemployment support and their retirement savings gone, we are struggling to keep up. Now, two months behind rent, they are facing a demand for $3,200 to avoid eviction. Without a stable income, we're worried we might lose our home.
