Help Mama Mel’s Continue to Provide Gluten-Free Bread to Our Community
Since 2017, Mama Mel’s Bread has provided healthy and delicious artisan gluten-free bread to the local community in Sonoma County and beyond.
But we’re no longer able to run a sustainable business without some much-needed support.
Help Mama Mel’s continue to operate and expand and keep healthy and delicious gluten-free bread available in your home, as well as your local restaurants and grocery stores!
The Mama Mel’s Story
Starting in 2017, Mama Mel’s Bread has developed a wide variety of gluten-free baked goods, including sourdough loaves, sliced sandwich bread, bagels, pastries, and more.
We use healthy, high-quality ingredients and bake our bread using traditional artisan techniques so that your gluten-free bread looks and tastes just like the glutenous bread you remember. This means that anyone experiencing gluten sensitivities or even celiac disease can enjoy quality baked goods without compromising quality.
Over the years, our bread has made it to your tables through online ordering, farmer’s markets, and local restaurants and grocery stores, and along the way we’ve formed a close personal relationship with so many of you in our amazing community.
Our Challenge
Unfortunately, we’ve outgrown our current facility and equipment, while our business operating expenses and demand for our products has continued to grow.
This has made it extremely challenging to continue to run a sustainable business that keeps our standards high, our prices reasonable, and quality of life positive for our valuable team.
In late 2024, we started to let some of our local store and restaurant customers know that we would be ceasing operation by the end of the year. News quickly spread to the broader community, and we’ve received an outpouring of support, encouragement, and pleas to keep Mama Mel’s Bread going.
We’ve been overwhelmed by the support, and it has inspired us to develop a new strategy to keep our bakery running and providing gluten-free bread to the local community. The reality is that this requires a substantial fundraising effort in order to reinvigorate the business and make it sustainable (and expandable) for the foreseeable future.
While we’re working on securing SBA funding and exploring other opportunities, it’s likely that it won’t be enough to reach our goals, so we’re asking the local community to pitch in to the extent that you’re able and help keep Mama Mel’s open.
How the Funds Will Be Used
Your contribution will help Mama Mel’s secure a new facility, much needed equipment, and additional personnel in order to:
- Continue to provide the local community with artisan gluten-free bread
- Scale and upgrade the business to meet current and future demand for our products
- Explore efforts to expand, such as shipping, community resources, education, and more
We’ve been invigorated by the outpouring of support from our friends in the community so far, and we have a lot of great ideas to expand upon what we’ve built.
