Keep Mirabai Books Afloat in the Time of Covid19

Sometimes the hero is you.

For those of you unfamiliar with Mirabai, we are a bookstore located in Woodstock, NY.  Founded 33 years ago, the store's mission has always been simple but profound:  provide a resource-filled space for spiritual seekers, those who question orthodoxy, people who embrace a more conscious way of living, those who seek to grow, transform and heal, individuals drawn to the mystery in our world. 

My wife Audrey and I purchased the shop in 2000, eager to continue that mission and assume stewardship of this gorgeous sanctuary known as Mirabai.  We pride ourselves on the calming, supportive, positive energy of the shop, a beacon of inspiration for the entire region.

We remain positive day to day, but the storm clouds of Covid19 are proving to be more than we can weather on our own.  Like many of our fellow small shopkeepers, we are currently in deep financial peril.   

As such, Mirabai is currently in need of heroes.  Legions of heroes.  The sort of heroes that only Tolkien or Campbell or Rowling could imagine.  Venerable souls drawn to the higher ground, to matters of spirit, to the power they see in small things, to idyllic spaces like our own.  But like all such spaces, Mirabai is not only vital, it’s fragile, and at this point in the storm, our ship is sinking.  

Today Mirabai is launching a Gofundme effort to save the store.  For those of you who’ve been ordering gift certificates from us these past two weeks while the store’s been shuttered, we are forever grateful for that essential infusion of funds and the moral support those sales provided us.  But as we head into the uncertainty of the virus’ curve and with income now slowed to a trickle, a mountain of overdue and soon-to-be-due invoices, mortgage payments and fixed expenses for the shop are overwhelming us right now.  Money is tight all over, but won’t you please throw Mirabai a lifeline if you're able?  No amount is too small. The size of your individual contribution does not matter.  What matters is that the expansive energy of this community be ignited, collectively.  That is what we are asking.  Words cannot express how grateful we have been for all of your support throughout the years and how much your contribution now - small or large - would mean to us at this crucial moment. 

We realize this is a hard moment for everyone, but it’s also a big meaningful moment. When we took on the pleasure and responsibility of Mirabai 20 years ago this month, we knew we were not only inheriting a mission, but also fostering a community of like-minded souls seeking to discover a path that tilts upward toward a better world.  It’s been our honor to serve that community these many years.  Together we have co-created the space we know as Mirabai, and now we ask you to help save what you’ve created - to come to the rescue.  Mirabai needs a hand.  Mirabai needs a hug.  Mirabai needs a hero.

Sometimes the hero is you.
