Morris Park Boxing Club since Cuomo wont reopen it
Morris Park Boxing Club is a staple in the Morris Park community, founded in 1978 on Morris Park Avenue, the Bronx. The gym was initially opened by Joe DeGuardia Sr, a former professional boxer. In 1991, the operation of the gym was passed to his son, Joe DeGuardia Jr. From there it was bought by Dex Pejcinovic and now owned by former welterweight champion Aaron “Superman” Davis. The Morris Park Boxing Club has produced numerous Golden Gloves Champions, Junior Olympic Champions and World Champions and has been the home to both amateurs and pros since first opening its doors.
The funds will be used to pay the rent and provide compensation to the owners and trainers who are now forced to standby with its doors shut as the rest of New York businesses enter phase 4. As per Governor Cuomo’s Executive Order, the gym has beenshut down since March 16, 2020 and as of now has no reopening date scheduled.
The funds will be used immediately to pay back rent and will allow for rent to be paid for the remainder of the year as it is expected to stay closed until there is a vaccine for Covid-19.
Your support would mean the world to the owners and trainers who have lost their livelihood. They look forward to working with their members again, all of whom can’t wait for the gym to reopen.
As a community member, I’ve created this fundraiser on behalf of the business Morris Park Boxing Club.
