Keep Outer Orbit Thriving in San Francisco

Hi! My name is Mary Smith, and I am currently the Assistant General Manager at Outer Orbit in San Francisco, California. My story is all about how I want to keep Outer Orbit in this city alive and thriving for not only the Bernal Heights community but also for the city of San Francisco.

I have been good friends with Christian and Elisabeth (Bif) for 5 years now, and I am so happy to have had the opportunity to work and learn under them this past year. Sadly and happily, they are going to be starting a new business venture with their new bar-cade project, Indie Darling, within the next year and can't afford the time and energy to keep up with the demands of their current restaurant.

To prevent the doors from permanently closing and us losing such a fun and welcoming space, I have taken on the responsibility of taking over the business! I will be working with a small administrative team of current employees and friends to bring a new model of Outer Orbit being a bar-cade with events and prioritized bar sales!

The current restaurant model sadly no longer works in the current economy that we are in, so to help bring profit to the space, I will be implementing the following:

1) Cutting down on food costs by shrinking the menu by at least half the amount of options we currently have. This will drive down labor on the backend as well.

2) Doing away with table service and operating under a first-come-first-served bar model. Bar sales will be our main priority.

3) Bringing in more games to make it a proper arcade. Right now, we have 7 pinball machines on-site. I would expand that to at least 10 and bring in different kinds of machines as well for those who like to play games like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Street Fighter, Ice Cold Beer, Ms. Pac-Man, etc.

4) Working with local event organizers to bring daily, weekly, and monthly events to the space. It is one thing to have a bar, but the best way to bring in more people is to host events at your space to show off how fun and exciting your place can be!

With these ideas in mind, I really do think that I can make Outer Orbit not only a fun and great place to hang out, but also a profitable business! But I am going to need help right out the gate!

That is where you come in, hopefully. I am wanting to raise at least $30,000 to help with operational costs such as payroll, food costs, drink costs, etc. for the first couple of weeks while I get my sea legs.
