Keep the best Scottish student paper in print

Donation protected
Brig has been the University of Stirling's student paper since 1969. As we near our 55th anniversary, we need your help to keep printing.

The journalism industry is struggling, and student papers are no exception. As well as the cost of printing physical papers, our digital overheads have increased as we need to maintain our award-winning website, SEO tools, Adobe and Issuu subscriptions.

Currently, we only print three times a year: a freshers edition in September, refreshers in January and Union elections in March. This is around half the output of our fellow student papers in Scotland. We would love to return to printing four editions each academic year.

Despite financially struggling, Brig has gone from strength to strength. We have won best student publication in Scotland at the Student Publication Association awards three years in a row, our membership reached over 100 people for 2022/23, and many of our recent graduates have been hired in national newsrooms across the country.

Earlier this year, we were also proud to launch the first digital edition of Braw, our magazine section, independent of its usual home in the middle of Brig. It would be an absolute dream to publish physical copies in the future.

None of this comes without cost. We receive no regular funding from the university or Students Union. We were grateful to receive money from the Vice Chancellor’s Fund the past two years, but we need stability.

Brig will always be free to students, which is why we are asking for your donations. Whether you’re a current student, alum, friend or family member, if Brig has made a difference in your life, we need your help.

Thank you for reading,
Brig editorial team 2023/24
