Keep the Free Store going!

Welcome to the North Oakland Free Store at 4799 Shattuck (Omni Commons). We are open Wed-Sat 3-6PM.

We receive donated things, curate, display & offer them to “shoppers” for a price of $0.00 in a fun, safe, cozy setting full of love and joy. For almost four years, we’ve moved tens of thousands of items with NO money involved.

In September 2024, our building was rescued from foreclosure by local heroes at EBPREC. We are thrilled and endlessly grateful to them for bringing a new era of stability, improvements and Black-led management to Omni! These new owners are wonderful allies to the free store, and have signed a generous lease with us. At the same time, these changes mean the free store will need to raise money, for things like:

* Maintaining non-profit status

* Liability insurance

* Rent & deposit

* Sturdy, movable display units

This will keep things going another year, hopefully more, with all surplus funds beyond that spent directly on essential goods for our customers: tents, socks, sleeping bags, etc.
