Help the Hurley family
Donation protected
We are asking for your prayers and your direct support for a young single mother and her two sweet young daughters. Kim Hurley, and her daughters, Mallory and Meghan, have lived in a small camper trailer in an Oak Island campground for almost 4 years. Kim has some serious disabilities, and had an addiction to alcohol. In November, she will celebrate 5 years of abstinence from alcohol, and has strenuously made her home beautiful, safe and comfortable for her girls. She has also been diligently homeschooling them, and supporting their artistic talent.
Kim’s worked for a time as a CNA in spite of her disabilities. Unfortunately, Social Security decided to stop her disability payments because of her efforts to provide for her family. She has no means to hire an attorney to appeal this arbitrary and unfair action. Her disabilities have progressed to the point where she often has days when it is impossible to hold down a regular job. Regardless, she has devoted her efforts, at no charge, to assist a former client who suffered injury, and needed care at home.
Kim, Meghan and Mallory have worked hard to make their little camper and campsite homey and beautiful. They have surrounded it with beautiful plants, flowers, seashells and colorful artwork.
The owner and staff at the campground have continually resented their efforts, have falsely claimed that other campers complained of “noise” from them, and have harassed them. including directing drunken slurs and threats toward the children. Rules and restrictions have been constantly applied to Kim that are not required of other campers . Recently, Kim, and her girls attempted to provide food and water to an emaciated cat that was caged at the campground office. When the staff refused to allow them to help the poor creature, Kim asked for help from OKI Animal Control. Within days her children were subjected to a drunken outburst from the campground owner who directed slurs and threats at the children, and told them they were EVICTED! When Kim confronted him regarding his behavior and threats to her children, the drunk was whisked away by his staff before OKI police arrived due to Kim’s complaint. Kim then received a handwritten note stating that she was evicted, and had 10 days to leave the campground.
Kim is desperately attempting to find another place for her family to live. So far, she has found nothing. She needs help to find a place to live, and to determine how to make her camper roadworthy to be moved. Kim, and her girls have no family supporting them, and have never received child support payments. They have very limited income, and no recourse when confronted by discrimination and abuse. If there are caring people in legal aid and social services, their help would be so appreciated. Some of Kim’s friends have provided gifts of money, clothes, food and other assistance, but more help is needed to prevent the horrors of becoming homeless. These young ladies are loving, caring and very appreciative of any help they receive. Kim tries to keep her girls involved in church groups and activities. They know they are children of a loving God.
The camper has some leaks, and no working stove or oven. Kim must use a small toaster oven to prepare meals. They have no car, nor funds to repair or replace the camper or buy a vehicle.
If you find it in your heart to be of help with any of these concerns, please respond to this Go Fund Me request, or text/PM/e-mail Kim at: (910) [phone redacted] to discuss their needs and your ability to help directly, such as Zelle or Venmo. Regardless of your ability or desire to help, please keep Kim, Meghan and Mallory in your prayers.
Thank you,
A concerned friend
