To those who have donated before, thankyou, over the last 3 years you have supported Krishna and Laxmi and allowed them to pay rent, have food to eat, a bed to sleep and equally important a purpose in life. We would like them to enjoy however many years they have left.
Note: When donating one can avoid the Gofundme donation by putting 0 in that box.
We are a group of friends of Krishna and Laxmi, two incredible, loving and giving, well-known locals in the tourist town of Pokhara, Nepal.
Over the years Krishna cooked some of the best food in Pokhara, cooked with love. Krishna started his restaurant many years ago in a tent on a field in Pokhara. With the sun shining into the tent every morning he was inspired to call the restaurant Sun Welcome.
Losing all their income at the start of the pandemic, they were in danger of becoming homeless in their late 70s. Thanks to all the donations since Krishna has been able to keep baking his amazing apple pies and cooking from the heart, to nourish our hearts.
2024 was not easy for Laxmi, while I was in Nepal in Feb, Laxmi suffered a major stroke, thankfully Krishna was able to get her to a major hospital in Pokhara and the doctors and nurses did amazing work to clear the clots and Laxmi has made a very good recovery since. Tho both she and Krishna struggle with thier advanced years.
Krishna and Laxmi have welcomed many over the years as family, including myself. And yet they have no close family to support them. This is why we, as their surrogate family help them out.

Sadly losing their restaurant and no tourists for 2 years, they became homeless in 2021. Since then, we have raised enough money to find them a small place to live and for Krishna to keep doing what he loves, which is to cook and meet people.
Our 2022 fundraiser helped them keep their very small restaurant at the beginning of 2023 as a small amount of tourism returned to Nepal. Tourist numbers are still down and our fundraise in 2023 supported them through most of 2024. Going forward we hope to pay most of their 18000 rupee rent a month during 2025. From their small pension and money from the restaurant they can support themselves with food and necessities.
Krishna has been passionate about cooking all his life, Cooking for an American family in Kathmandu, then working overseas, they have run a guesthouse and then Sun Welcome restaurant for decades. His food is simple but always seems cooked with love, often a meal is accompanied by his laugh and smile.
Namaste and thankyou from Krishna and Laxmi and all their many friends.
