The COVID-19 situation has made it impossible to continue training in our physical dojo space. While many of us continue to train alone in our own spaces--a basement, garage, backyard, or hallway--that can be lonely. Virtual lessons bring us the social connection we crave, but as with any physical activity, they cannot replace the real thing.
These feelings are compounded by the reality that Legacy Shorin Ryu Kitchener may not be able to reopen its doors when life returns to normal. In fact, we are poised to lose half of our membership within our next fee cycle--the next three months. No doubt, this is due to the financial hardships that many in our community are facing at this time. Some simply cannot afford to pay their fees.
Your donation will help our dojo to survive this difficult time. By meeting our goal, we will be able to pay rent, utilities, and other fees for three months--but most importantly, we will be able to support all of our members in their return to training.
Whether you are a past or present member of Legacy Shorin Ryu, or the parent, sibling, partner, or friend of someone who is, you know how much the dojo means to us. It is not just a place where we work out and sweat--although we love that very much--it is a place where we honour and celebrate the history of karate. It is a place where we connect with our extended family, our chosen family.
