Keep Tyler Mobile: Aid for Him and His Mom

This is Jessi Pennington. This holiday season has been rough for my small family. In early December, my precious best friend that I call my mom (Robin R Allen) was scheduled for a surgery to remove precancerous cells from her colon. All was going well afterwards, she was a day or two from going home. Suddenly, she went septic and was brought back for a second surgery. Unfortunately, they had to give her an ostomy bag after this surgery. We hoped that she’d be in the clear now but she was sent off to a third surgery because her bag wasn’t working properly. They had to scoot it back and reapply it to her. After all this mess, her care team and us were keeping her busy with eating and drinking, moving her muscles, getting her out of the bed and moving slightly. She was able to get somewhat of an appetite back and was requesting some of her favorite foods. Sadly she did start to decline after she was struggling with shortness of breath and fluid in her lungs. She’s been moved off of the general surgery floor to ICU. They started her with an oxygen mask, but now she has a breathing tube working for her. Luckily she’s resting good and isn’t in pain but we really need her to bounce back from this. I would do anything in my power to be in her place instead. I wish I could take all of her pain away. She would give her life for either me or my brother. She’s my best friend. Her kids, fiancé, grandkids, extended family, friends, and puppy dogs are rooting her on and waiting for her recovery. We don’t have the best luck as a family and Tyler’s life threatening injury a couple days after her first surgery didn’t help. At some points, we were bouncing from Baptist to Forsyth to see each of them. Then both of them ended up at Forsyth, on different floors.

My name is Tyler Pennington and I’m raising money for my mom’s bills and my bills. On 12/05/24, she had her first of several surgeries. She had most of her colon removed. On 12/06/24, I fell on a filet knife while attempting to feed deer corn so my disabled veteran friend could get a deer for his family. I made one initial cut on the bag, took two steps, and tripped and fell. Natural human instinct made me pull/rip the knife out, and I felt with my hand the extent of my blood loss. Luckily, I had my phone and called 911. They arrived within 7 minutes of the call. They said if they didn’t get to me within a minute or two, I would’ve been dead. I truly saw my life flash before my eyes. I have been hospitalized three different times over my leg and countless times over my leg. I have spent every dollar to my name getting to my mom’s house, taking care of her three puppy dogs, and going to the hospital to be there with her. I haven’t been able to rest and recover. I was told that I would never walk again. Here it is 1 month and 1 day since I fell on the knife, and I’m walking with a cane. My mother was rushed into ICU and put on a ventilator this past Sunday. I cannot lose my mother. She is the last pillar of my mental strength and is truly my best friend. I hate to ask for any kind of handout, but I am behind on my truck payments by 2 months, and it’s my only way to get to the hospital, and power bills. My phone was shut off this morning. Anything helps. No one expected any of this, but I have spent everything I have trying to take care of mom, and I truly hate to ask for anything, but I have no other options.
