Now, more than ever, we need to make sure that the most vulnerable members of our community can keep connected. Our appeal is to reduce the communication gap and provide accessibility to education and services.
The pandemic has highlighted in sharp relief the gaps in communication and education residents face in what is looking to be a long winter period.
With the recent news of Croydon Council being on the verge of bankruptcy and the threat of a second national lockdown looming we have been working with a leading tech refurbishment company to come up with a list of devices that would assist in us Keeping Croydon Connected.
Funding would allow us to purchase 288 laptops and tablets to allow us to begin to fill some of the widening gaps in communication created by the pandemic for those most in need. In an ever more connected world, we feel it paramount to allow people young and old to have access to education or a call from loved ones to check on welfare.
Questionnaire sent to all schools – of the 24 Primary and Secondary and one College (of 206) that replied the data shows:
1. Approx. 383 families who do not have access to IT devices or internet
2. Approx. 600 families who are having to share devices
3. Approx. 326 families who have limited access to the internet
Thank you so much for your time, our target is a marker, as soon as we have enough to buy a batch of fully refurbished devices we will begin distribution to our partnered charities.
