Keeping LaChelle's Home for Her Children
Donation protected
LaChelle was a member of the Hazel Park Church of Christ, born and raised there and in the Hazel Park community. She attended and graduated from Hazel Park and her children have or are attending. Her children are Devin, 19 years old, a full-time college student, Wesley, 17, Victoria, 14, and Boston, 6, all at Hazel Park schools.
LaChelle worked very hard and saved enough money to buy a home. It needed work but it would be her's and her children's. She heard of a program through Oakland County that would give her the opportunity to fix her family home. It was a loan that did not need to be paid back unless she moved, or, as we just found out, she died. The family received a bill for $28,535.00 which is due after her death.
Here is LaChelle's 107-day journey in which we were certain she would have come home from:
LaChelle went to the doctors Monday morning, December, 2018. They diagnosed her with bronchitis. She still wasn't feeling any better, so she went back to the doctor Thursday and was diagnosed with pneumonia.
LaChelle stayed in bed praying and hoping with the new medication this would fix everything. Her family had a tradition that they all spend Christmas eve together. LaChelle wasn't there. She didn't want to get anyone sick, which was so LaChelle, but Christmas morning her mom got a call that she needed to go to the hospital. Her mom arrived at the house and tried to get her to the car when she collapsed and 911 was called. They arrived at Beaumont hospital and within 30 minutes they had her in the ICU unit and was told to call the family. They were not sure she would make it. The family arrived and they took her to the 4th floor ICU where we all prayed for the best. She was diagnosed with pneumonia/the flu and an undiagnosed infection.
She was in an ICU unit for a week with no improvement, in a paralyzed condition. The ECMO team was then called (An ECMO machine is a form of life support. It keeps the lungs or heart working. In LaChelle's case, it was for her lungs until they could heal.) The family asked what Plan B would be. LaChelle said there is always a Plan B, death, is what was given to the family. So the ECMO machine became her life.
One of the side effects is that you are on a blood thinner so the machine would not clog. LaChelle received over 200 units of blood, 50 in a span. She was bleeding and they couldn't get it to stop. She kept fighting. The infection finally spread all through the top part of her lungs and within a week ate through the bottom of the other. Coils were inserted to stop the bleeding. She had a hole in one of her lungs that no matter what they did could not be closed. She would take three steps forward, then 2 1/2 steps back. Her family and friends had no doubt though that she would come home to enjoy the house that was finally done. The weekend before she died, LaChelle had two strokes and went blind.
Within 5 days her body could not fight any longer and she was called "home" at 5:05, April 10th, 2019.
According to the agreement on her loan, the family received a bill for $28, 535. We are asking for your help to keep her children together in a home she would have been so proud of. If you can help, you can through PayPal, here, check or money order to Pam Ogles (address: 821 East Evelyn Hazel Park, MI 48030). Thank you for all of your help! Please keep her family in your prayers!
