Our Cause = #KEEPKOREATOWN

To #KeepKoreatown as it is and not have 2/3 of Koreatown be essentially stolen by and turned into Little Bangladesh. There are currently about 350,000 Koreans living in the LA Metro Area alone. This number does not include the number of Koreans and now many other Ethnicities who come into Koreatown to work, shop, eat, and play. Bangladesh people only number about 3-5,000 in the local area. They want to take away 2/3 of Koreatown. This just makes no sense.
Over the course of 50 years in LA, Koreans have established ourselves and have been able to designate through LA City part of LA known as Koreatown. We built many restaurants, stores, and moved and settled into this relatively small area. It is quite dense and LA has the biggest Korean Population outside of Korea. Much of the property is even owned by Koreans as you might expect. We were shattered and destroyed by the LA Riots but we are resilient and rebuilt all of Koreatown to what you see today. Koreatown, alongside Beverly Hills and Hollywood, is now one of the most favorite and hottest places to come visit, eat, and take in the Korean culture. For whatever their reasons are, Bangladesh people now want to take 2/3 of Koreatown and designate it into Little Bangladesh. This truly makes no sense to us. We are both minorities and one minority wants to basically steal another minorities designated area. If the city is changed into Little Bangladesh then they could essentially ruin all the Korean businesses and have the power to not allow Korean businesses within the new Little Bangladesh. There are a large number of Senior Citizens in the area proposed. They will have an even harder time with this proposed change. I personally see a cultural war not seen since the riots. The Bangladesh are being ignorant to this. Rather than working to make their own area, they are basically picking a fight with us Koreans. There are many areas close by that are not designated the Bangladesh people can apply for. Why do they want or feel the need to take over Koreatown? Myself who is writing this has lived in LA for 50 years now. I’ve seen and been in LA through it all from the start, seeing the growth, the riots, Koreatown being essentially reborn, then the rise and now another fight to take over Koreatown by another minority. It is very similar to our own Korean history where other cultures have wanted to take over Korea and our people. Koreans have been through this before and we won’t let this happen now
We cannot let that happen. It will not happen.
We need volunteers as you might imagine. If you’re in LA and want to help please contact us through FB. The link is below.

We also need financial support. Our group of volunteers is self funding our part to help #KeepKoreatown. We are a group of individuals who passionately love our Koreatown. There are many others out there getting people signed up but our own group of 30 have come together to start #KeepKoreatown. We are making our own copies, had T-Shirts made, buying all kinds of supplies. We are out everyday at 3-4 locations several hours a day volunteering our time to get people registered. We are hitting the pavement too, knocking on doors, talking to business owners, registering people everyday at the markets, malls, outside the restaurants, basically everywhere in Koreatown. We are calling newspapers, radio shows, trying to meet with the local politicians. We are doing whatever we can to save OUR Koreatown. Whatever we are spending comes out of our own pockets. Some people have taken off work to volunteer. That is how important this is to us. The marketing, the copies, the t-shirts, more copies, more printing is very costly so we are asking for your help. Please know 100% of the donations will go to this cause. No administrative costs. All of it to save and #KeepKoreatown.
DONATIONS ARE GOING THROUGH A 501C3 NON-PROFIT = The G2 YOU Foundation. A Tax Receipt will be provided
