Help keep Oscar with his family
Update: Wow! We are almost a third of the way to reaching our goal. Thank you so much. You people are phenomenal!
In 5 short weeks, Brett will appear for his last court date before preparing for the Utah Supreme Court.
Please share this with as many people as you possibly can.
Facebook, Twitter, and your personal email (and, of course, word of mouth) are excellent platforms to seek help for this loving family.
THANK YOU!
Oscar needs your help to keep him from being taken from his family.
We are writing this story for Brett because Oscar needs your help. After asking Brett to adopt their unborn child, Oscar’s biological parents are now trying to take him away from the only family he has ever known.
As a gay single man, it has been very difficult for Brett to adopt a child. Five years ago, we watched that magic happen for him. Brett had the opportunity to adopt a new born baby girl that he named Maxx. Can you imagine our excitement when he had the opportunity to adopt a second child, Oscar? Because Brett kept a strong relationship with Maxx's birth family and birth grandparents, he received a call from Maxx’s biological aunt when she found herself pregnant with an unwanted child. She and Oscar's biological father watched Brett raise Maxx and agreed that this would be the best home for this child. Maxx and Oscar are biological cousins. That was two years ago.
Brett assumed financial responsibility six months before Oscar's birth, paying for all doctor bills, counselors, rent, food, clothes, and all kinds of support for the mother. He also paid for all the legal and adoption fees, etc.
Oscar went home with Brett the day after his birth. Six months later he found himself in court fighting to keep Oscar. This is all AFTER the birth mother terminated her parental rights in court, and AFTER the biological father gave his approval for Brett to adopt. The biological parents have now waged a legal battle for over a year against Brett to take Oscar from him. This legal battle is now in appeals to the Utah Supreme Court with a strong chance of reaching the United States Supreme Court before being finalized. It has been a crippling year for this family both emotionally and financially. Since his arrival, Oscar’s costs have reached above $70,000. The projected costs for the approaching trial and Supreme court battle are expected to exceed $100,000.00. The costs of which Brett is bearing on his own. He needs your help now.
Brett has been fortunate enough to be able to cover all of his legal costs this past year, but his savings are depleted and his debt load reached. He is a single parent who has dedicated his life to being a father. All who know this family know that they are very happy and adore one another.
The biological parents are no longer together. The biological father lives with his parents and does not have a full-time job. We are not saying it's all about money; not at all. We are saying that Brett is stable, honest, focused, has an amazing, very successful career as a Creative Director. He is healthy and very attentive to his children.
We have known Brett for twenty years. He has helped us raise our own children. We have worked together professionally and know him to be hard-working and always fair. Brett also has the support of his family who adore these two children.
Oscar is now 18 months old. By the time they are done in the Supreme Court, Oscar will be five. Can you imagine what a five-year-old Oscar will go through if he is given to an entirely new family and loses his dad and sister forever? Brett is prepared to go the distance with the Supreme Court to keep his son with him. Wouldn’t you do everything in your power to keep your child from being taken away from you forever? Can you imagine the nightmare that this is for Brett? Also imagine the nightmare it would be for little Oscar if he is forced to leave the only home he has ever known.
Quite simply, Brett needs money to stay in this fight. Be assured that 100% of anything you give goes directly to Oscar's legal fund.
Please donate to this unique and beautiful family.
Also, please repost this in as many places as you are able. Maxx, Oscar, and Brett thank you from the bottom of their beautiful hearts. Bless your lives. Hold your loved ones close! This life is so precious.
