Do you hear them sing?

Exmouth’s youth musical theatre group, Centre Stage, is appealing to the local community to help their voices be heard in 2020. For fifty years, Centre Stage has been delighting Exmouth audiences with award-winning musical performances, but outdated equipment is putting the quality of future productions at risk. So, the registered charity has launched an appeal to fund the purchase of much-needed radio microphones and headsets. Mark Worsley, the Centre Stage President, comments “Staging a production is a massive undertaking and our talented young performers work exceptionally hard to deliver a great show. We always receive brilliant feedback from our audiences and want to enhance their enjoyment by making sure every word can be clearly heard.” “As we’re an inclusive company, we keep our membership fees low, which makes it a struggle to find the money for extras such as this. It would mean so much to our members if the local community could support us with a donation.” Centre Stage began life in 1971 and has been staging musicals every year since then. The musical performances may have changed, but the aims are the same – to develop young people through the practical involvement in performing arts, to build confidence, self-esteem and maturity and most of all to give a life-enhancing sense of belonging to a company of like-minded people. Many former members have gone on to study at theatre schools including Bristol Old Vic, Mountview, and Guildford School of Acting with some pursuing successful careers in the West End and national theatres. Centre Stage’s next performance is West Story hopefully in April 2021 subject to COVID restrictions
