Keith Holdaway's Fight Against Sarcoma

My name is Sydney Powell, and I have the privilege of sharing with you that I am fundraising for Sarcoma Alliance and Keith Holdaway while training to run the New River marathon in honor of him.

Sarcoma Alliance's mission strives to improve the lives of people that are affected by sarcoma through accurate diagnosis, improved access to care, guidance, education, and support. When sharing with Keith I would be doing this for him, I asked him directly where he would like the funds to go as I wanted him to have the freedom to choose, and he chose this organization. The funds will be split 50/50, half going to the Sarcoma Alliance and the other half going directly to Keith Holdaway's family.

A lot of people have asked me why I have chosen to do this, and truthfully, the answer has always been clear. Our family friend, Keith has been battling cancer for over 20+ years. In those two decades, Keith has been diagnosed with cancer, soft tissue sarcoma, received radiation, chemotherapy, rehabilitation therapy, and along the process lost his right arm and shoulder, and this past September of 2024, made the courageous and unfathomable decision to have his left leg and partial pelvis amputated.

Keith is not a person that lets his life be disrupted or defined by this disease. Him and his wife, Patricia, just celebrated 31 years of marriage this past year, they have two children, Elyse and Ian who have been by their parent's side since day 1 and constantly remind everyone of their steadfast love for one another and their community. For a number of years after having his right arm amputated, Keith continued to work and travel as his love for our world is a huge part of who he is as a person.

Keith Holdaway embodies and lives his life with humility and grit. He has the upmost respect for others, taking on a life full of hope and strength and carrying characteristics that you would hope to have in every father, life partner, friend and human.

I decided to run in honor of something and someone that gives my community and others a chance to believe in the unknown and hope for things we cannot see, as Keith Holdaway does. Keith makes decisions that are of the unthinkable for others, all while being a light of hope for his family, people who do not know him, and for the community of people who have also been diagnosed with sarcoma.
