Keith's Campaign for the Cruelest Disease: FTD

The hardest part is telling the world that Keith has Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD).

From the theaftd.org: Understanding is growing that not all dementia is Alzheimer’s. However, too few realize today that dementia can impact younger adults. (Keith was diagnosed with FTD in June of 2023 at the age of 55).

FTD, also known as frontotemporal dementia, frontotemporal degeneration or Pick’s disease, is the most common dementia diagnosed before age 60. FTD brings progressive changes to personality, language, decision making, behavior, and movement. FTD is actually a group of diseases affecting the same brain regions. These include behavioral variant FTD, primary progressive aphasia (PPA), corticobasal degeneration, progressive supranuclear palsy, and FTD/ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Keith has the behavioral variant with some aphasia.

Today, there are no treatments. There are no medications. There is no cure.

A small percentage of people diagnosed with the subvarients that Keith has eventually decline further with ALS. While we hope this isn't Keith's fate, the many specialists, medical appointments, and travel for medical we have attended and have scheduled later this July will help us better understand what his future holds. His current prognosis is based on when symptoms started and, on average, and as it stands, he will have about 5 years left to live.

The amount of care he will need will increase exponentially in the short term. And we are already almost $10,000 in medical debt just to get the official diagnosis.

Keith retired from work in April. He can no longer drive and needs regular guidance every day. Lisa, his wife, closed her business to become his caretaker then, too. Lisa and Keith have an 11 year old son, Loik.

Any amount you can give will be immediately used to pay off the medical debt, and once that's nipped, we will use your donations for personal in-home care, medical bills, supplies and equipment.
