This is a call to arms to all who have had their lives touched by Kel AKA Kelkel AKA Kelkelkel AKA “the sassy/feisty redhead” AKA Kelly Ashley.
As you may have heard, in October of last year, our beloved pirate captain Kel was struck by a car whilst commuting to work. Fortunately, her helmet saved her noggin (#notallhelmetswearcapes #WEARYOURHELMETKIDS!). While we are beyond stoked that she’s still with us, she did not come out unscathed. She has had to have a titanium plate fitted to fix her broken arm, and is still seeking specialist treatment and undergoing physiotherapy to work on her multiple fractured lumbar (that’s the spine, y’all!), a hip injury, and other injuries sustained during the accident.
The immediate result of this was that she had to use her annual leave and turn down contract work, both of which was going to be used to help her get through the mid-year events slump that comes with industry & festival life. She is not yet cleared to return to full duties which means she is unable to take on the work and contracts that she normally would. Add to this the compounding costs of transportation, legal fees, medical fees while waiting for insurance to get itself together, and the overall extra costs of having to rejig her life to accommodate healing from her injuries and adapt to the longer-term ramifications of the event, including chronic pain, it all adds up.
We are raising funds for her to help cover these bills, and to help her weather the winter months and support her recovery, before her usual work picks back up at the end of the year. Our beloved friend Feisty has generously replaced her scooter, which has greatly helped her with mobility however we are hoping to get her onto something safer such as a bicycle.
If you've ever worked with or for her on a festival site… if you've ever been a part of the banging parties she's thrown at nightclubs across Perth… if you've had a heartwarming story of meeting her on the door at a gig you remember fondly (or even a “run-in” story of meeting her on the door at a gig you remember not so fondly, and are kept up at night by the memory of her delivering a shut-down in a feisty, yet entirely professional and entertaining way), or if you have ever been sold music, random paraphernalia or merch by her, then we are asking for your help!
Any amount would be greatly appreciated and would go a long way to getting our Captain back on her feet and commanding her fleet of pirates!
