Kellen Waweru’s medical bills

Hello

Some of you may know that George’s mom, Kellen, has had some medical issues recently and has been hospitalized with an infection from her 1st surgery for a week at this point. There were a few moments we weren’t sure if she would make it, but thankfully they have gotten the infection under control and she is starting to feel better.

A while back, she started experiencing some severe pain and after some trial and error, Dr’s at Nairobi Hospital figured out there was a mass in her stomach area. Thankfully this turned out to be benign, however it still needed to be removed.
George’s sister Faith came out to help care for her during this. George left in the middle of June to do the same. We (George’s family) were able to cover the costs of this first surgery which was over $6,000. There is no medical insurance in Kenya.
However, she continued to feel pain after this surgery. Recovery was not going well. A family friend had recommended another hospital at this point, thankfully! She ended up spiking a fever a week ago and being hospitalized. She was in a lot of pain.
It turns out that the doctors of the first hospital did not clean out the surgical site well enough. She had a severe infection. She has had a drainage tube in her lungs and oxygen in an intensive care unit for the week.

She is currently feeling much better thanks to this care and has been transferred from the intensive care unit and will hopefully will be returning home soon!

However, the costs of this last hospital stay are larger than the first, currently about $7000 which increase every day she is there. The family is reaching out for help in covering these medical costs. Any little bit you might be able to donate would go a long way in taking care of these bills and is greatly appreciated by the family, especially George and I.

George was supposed to be coming home July 3, but has extended his stay until middle of July to continue to provide help. We are glad he is able to be with his mom there and are hopeful that she will be able to come home this week sometime!!

Please put George and his family in your prayers! They would very much appreciate that! Thank you for your support!
