As many of you know, in the past year Kellie has experienced medical setbacks which have been life changing for her. About this time in 2018, she began having vertigo, double vision, hearing loss, balance issues and hemifacial spasms on a regular basis. All this led to loss of work and extensive medical testing and appointments with ENTs, Neuro Opthamalogists, Neurologists, Neuro Surgeons, just to name a few.
In June 2019, after no benefit from attempting treatment with facial Botox injections to treat her spasms, her last resort was Microvascular Decompression surgery. This surgery is performed very close to the brain and it relieves pressure from an artery’s compression of a facial nerve. Surgery proved to be more extensive than was hoped for and Kellie experienced a cerebell stroke during the surgery.
For Kellie, the past four months have changed her life. Because her stroke paralyzed one of her vocal cords, among other things, she now has a voice with low volume, it cracks and eventually fades altogether. She has learned that our vocal cords do more than just provide a voice for us. The cords are supposed to open wide when we take a breath, so with the paralysis, trouble breathing is an issue. Vocal cords also close when we swallow to prevent aspiration. She is learning a new way of swallowing. Kellie began PT, OT and Speech Therapy during her week long rehab at Mary Free Bed, and continues with these therapies closer to home attempting to adapt to her “new normal”.
Motio, Sports Therapy and Massage, in Holland, MI, is a business that Kellie began and it has become her passion. She has been able to work minimally over the past year while coping with her health issues. She is now trying to resume a portion of her work schedule but it is challenging to say the least.
I’m hoping that by setting up this Go Fund Me, we could assist with mounting medical expenses. She has been so thankful for all the cards, gifts, visits, meals and prayers from her support group. Her support system is the best!! This is one more way we can help Kellie. Please donate if you are able, but if not, certainly don’t stop sending your thoughts and prayers.
Thank you so much.
