12/6/23. Update…
Kelly and I have been up at Stanford for 9 1/2 months now. He still in the Cardiac ICU and after five major infections and a Noro Virus, he is finally stable.
The first infection resulted in Kelly having to open his chest back up, have his sternum split in two and have repeated “washouts” for well over two months. His chest stayed open for many months. We have had many many scary, sad, life threatening and upsetting setbacks along the way and wondered whether we’d ever get to a stable spot.
We still have a very long way to go. Kelly is working at weining off the ventilator, learning to breath again through his upper airways and also learning to speak, walk and use his motor skills again. It’s been a very long road, but we’re going to get there.
I apologize for the late responses and updates…I was never sure what would happen from day to day and didn’t want to get everyone’s hopes up when things were not going so well.
We cannot thank you enough for all of the help, love and support. We have a ways to go, but could not have made it this far without all the support.
Thank you all, very much, and we hope to see you all in the not too far off future.
Please continue to send Kelly good vibes and thoughts.
Thanks again, be well.
