Kelly Koch
Kelly Koch was diagnosed in March, 2014, with ocular melanoma in his right eye. It is a rare cancer, only occurring in .0006% of the population, and he was sent to University of Iowa for treatment. His tumor was treated with a plaque radiation. It was effective on that tumor.
Ocular melanoma travels by blood and is known to metastasize in the liver. For 7 years his scans have been clean until now. On June 10, 2021, his liver scan showed a large tumor and several small tumors. This cancer is rare enough that there is not much out there for treatment.
He will be undergoing infusions every 3 weeks and will have a radio embolization performed to try and stop the growth of the large tumor. There is some hope that the FDA will soon approve a new treatment that the doctors seem very excited about. He is ready to fight.
The cost of these treatments are unknown at this time as he is still waiting for referrals and appointments to be set, and hoping that they will be effective. He is working on getting his treatments in Norfolk and Omaha so that he doesn’t have to travel to Iowa City every time.
He is 45 years old and has a wife, Ashly, and 3 kids: Charlie age 17, Daphne age 8, and Griffin age 2.
