On January 30th, Kelly went to the emergency room at Phoebe Putney in Albany GA with what she thought was just severe neck pain. She was found to have cervical spinal cord compression and an epidural abscess. Hardware that she had from a prior surgery wore a hole in her esophagus and caused an infection. She developed paralysis in her arms and legs and had to have emergency surgery on her spine during the night. After the surgery, she was put on a ventilator since she was unable to breathe on her own. Her condition continued to get worse and was transferred to the neurology ICU at Emory University Hospital-Midtown on January 31.
Kelly has undergone a total of 4 additional surgeries while at Emory. She still remains in ICU on a ventilator but we believe the infection is finally gone. We are now trying to focus on her recovery and regaining her motor skills. Kelly is a fighter!! She remains under excellent care in the neurology ICU at Emory and we are all so thankful for the great doctors, PA's/NP's, and nurses that are taking care of her.
We have witnessed the power of prayer during the last 2 weeks and have faith that God will continue to make miracles happen. Currently our biggest prayers are that the infection does not return, that she is able to regain movement in her arms and legs, and that she can be removed from the ventilator.
Clint has been staying in Atlanta with Kelly's sister, LaShelle, and they are both visiting with Kelly daily. Clint has been unable to work or be home in Albany because he does not want to leave Kelly's side. A few people have asked how they can help and so we have set up a GoFundMe account. If you are able to donate - anything is appreciated. Even if you can't make a donation, please bless them by praying for strength and courage in the weeks/months to come.
