Life Changing Surgery for Kelly

My husband, Kelly Prince, was diagnosed with bone cancer in his leg in June, 2011.  He underwent surgery to replace the bone and keep his leg.  After multiple complications and additional surgeries, he got an infection and was left without a choice. His left leg had to be amputated above the knee.  He learned to walk again with a traditional prosthetic leg, but ongoing complications kept him from being able to wear his leg for extended periods of time or walk more than short distances.  Prior to his diagnosis, he was active coaching our two son’s baseball teams, hunting, fishing, and enjoying time outdoors.  Doctors have tried to alleviate his ongoing pain with injections, medications, and additional surgeries but nothing has been successful in helping. They have said there is nothing else they can do to help him.  He spent 7 months this year without the ability to put his prosthetic leg on at all; having to use crutches all day, every day. He learned of a surgery being performed in Australia and other countries called “osseointegration.” This innovative procedure permanently attaches a titanium rod into his residual bone that the prosthetic leg then attaches too. The surgery disperses pressure back on the skeletal structure of his leg and would alleviate his current problems caused by traditional prosthetics. Since this surgery is done overseas, it’s not covered by insurance in the United States.  He is trying to raise enough money to have this surgery.  Please consider donating towards this goal and sharing his journey with others you know.  This surgery would allow him to start enjoying activities with his family and friends again that have been taken away by his pain and limited mobility.  Any donation you can make would make a huge difference.
