Kelly's Community-It's our turn to give back

“Helping one person might not change the world, but it could change the world for one person.”
Many people know some of this story and others may not, so in an effort to get everyone up to speed, please read on. In December, Kelly had surgery to repair a valve in her heart. Although it was thought to be fairly a routine procedure, the Doctors needed to do more work than initially indicated. Post-op routines revealed that during surgery she suffered a stroke in her spine. As a result, Kelly is recovering from her massive heart surgery, but is also dealing with the extremely challenging effects of her spinal stroke. Kelly is currently in a rehabilitation facility in Rockford, and her therapy is focused on regaining feeling from her waist down and learning to approach her daily needs with all of her new medical hurdles. Her progress is slow but steady and expected to be lengthy. Insurance will not cover her to stay in rehab for an extended time. There are some great therapies and programs that could potentially be beneficial to Kelly, but insurance will not cover their total costs. She has been unable to work and her daughter Stefanie and son-in law will undoubtedly soon be faced with becoming her primary at home care givers. The gravity of this emotional and financial turn of events is going to be all consuming and devastating on many levels.
Kelly is used to being independent. Life has thrown her some difficult curves and yet she has always found a way to use her pain and struggles to help others. Everyone who hears Kelly’s name or knows her face from her beloved job at Hononegah High School has a story, a memory or an instance of when she stepped in or stepped up and led with her bounty of kindness to help, or ease another’s burden. Now is the time for all of us to take the time to help Kelly. Any donation will help Kelly be able to get the extra and aggressively cutting edge therapy she needs to heal her spinal cord and regain her independence. Kelly’s love of family, friends, and community have served us all. Let’s show Kelly just how much she is loved by all of us and how we all can come together and work to lighten her burdens and lift her in prayers of healing.
Thank you.
