Kelly's Independence
For years I've been asked, let me know what I can do? I am now asking. But I am
so sorry at the same time to ask for money for Kelly. We are raising money to get a service dog for Kelly.
For the past two years now, Kelly has been slowly loosing her independence. She has developed a movement disorder that will come on suddenly and often cause her to fall. We have worked with neurologist and orthopedists, OTs and PTs,
specialists in movement disorders, tried therapy and drugs and nothing is helping and nothing is stopping it.
In addition, Kelly has developed a limp that can't be diagnosed as to why its
happening or how to improve it. We just received a gait trainer (walker) to help her just walk through the hallways at school and take a walk around the block. I am using her wheelchair more and more.
At home, the gait trainer is too big for our rooms and Kelly will grab furniture and walls to cross a larger area. She is more sedentary than ever. Covid didn't help.
Our goal is to get a service dog to help Kelly maintain and improve her
independence in our home and the world.
I will be the dogs immediate handler as of course, Kelly's disabilities keep her
from handling a dog in all situations. We will have the utmost concern for the
safety of Kelly and the dog. We are currently working with an organization out of state to get an appropriate dog for Kelly. It will take approximately two years
before a dog is available and training will begin after fundraising is complete.
So we begin, a long journey that we started 17 years ago, but we start again today.
Thank you for considering and if you aren't able to donate, please share.
With love, Kelly
