Kelsea Moyers health crisis

Dear family, friends, and community

My best friend Kelsea Moyers, needs us to rally around her to support her in a very difficult time!! She has been fighting an aggressive internal infection for 5 months, and while she is a fighter, there are just some battles we can’t face alone.

Kelsea is the most caring, genuine person you will ever meet. Her smile lights up a room and she would give you the shirt off her back. She is a single mom and sole provider to two beautiful girls, that are 4 and 5. Her daughters are her world. She is the proud owner of a small hair and makeup business, and a traveling bridal team in St. Louis. Unfortunately, Kelsea has no medical insurance and will be having to pay for all medical bills (already surpassing $10,000), and home health coverage out of pocket. The road to recovery will be pretty extensive on both her body and finances.

The type of bacterial infection is being tested and researched but so far all we understand is, it is very aggressive. It has caused her to have headaches, dizzy spells, nausea, exhaustion, loss of appetite, and excruciating pain and swelling. With months spent in and out of hospitals with no sure answers and treatment, it has been an extremely trying time for her and her family. When she went in for her second surgery, the surgery team was hoping they would find the cause of the infection but was sadly unsuccessful. Unfortunately, just a few days later she took a turn for the worst and developed tachycardia. Her heart rate was dangerously high and she was admitted back to the hospital, then transferred to Barnes, so that the trauma team and colo/rectal team could take her in for another emergency surgery. They were afraid she may have developed a flesh-eating bacterial infection called Nacratizing Fasciitis due to the symptoms she was having. Thankfully when they got her into surgery there was no damaged tissue which was a huge relief, but her infection has still spread pretty severely causing a 3rd abscess the size of a softball. The doctors put 4 drain tubes in and also had to make a very large incision to try and help release the pressure.

At this time Kelsea is on bed rest and trying to recover from surgery. She has undergone many procedures, ultrasounds, 2 CT scans, 2 hospital stays, and 3 emergency surgeries. We have been told she will be having a MRI, another surgery, if not multiple surgeries. With all of this, we just don't want her .to stress about her finances and supporting her kids. She has been out of work a few weeks and will continue to be out for an extended time period as Dr's look for answers and try and get her body the care it needs. All we want is for Kelsea to be able to get the help she needs to continue to thrive.

With so many asking how they can help, I have started this forum to serve as an opportunity for family and friends to offer support through financial contributions and well wishes during this difficult time, with all proceeds going directly to the family.
