Kelsey received the news earlier last year that she would become a mother in October of 2024. In July, Kelsey was diagnosed with hyperemesis at 30 weeks pregnant and everything would quickly spiral downward. On August 8th, Kelsey was having severe pain in her back which then moved to her chest. The doctor ran several tests that found irregularities in her results and made the decision to send her to Hamilton to the Cardiac Care unit. The hospital then rushed her to McMaster to have an emergency c section. On August 9th, her son Daniel Leroy was born at 32 weeks at 11:50pm.
Kelsey was discharged from the hospital on August 15th while baby Daniel stayed at McMaster in NICU. On August 18th, friends and family were able to celebrate with Kelsey by showering her and Paul with love for baby Daniel at her baby shower. On September 3rd Daniel was discharged from McMaster and transferred to the St. Catharine's hospital in the NICU department. On September 10th, Kelsey suffered a stroke and was sent to Hamilton where a scan showed a clot in her brain.
On October 3rd, Kelsey was experiencing chest pain and a scan had shown that there was fluid accumulating on her heart. On October 5th, a CT scan found fluid in her lung and she had 2 liters drained from her left lung. On October 8th, Kelsey had a bronchoscopy done and suffered another stroke.
On October 14th a lung biopsy was done, and Kelsey was released from the hospital on October 18th. Kelsey, Paul and baby Daniel dressed up like Skeletons to celebrate his First Halloween!
On November 7th, Kelsey received the difficult news that she had Stage 4 lung cancer. On November 17th, Kelsey was transferred from Welland to Hamilton and had general surgery for a pericardial window. On November 22, Kelsey was released from the hospital and went home.
On November 30, Kelsey was back at the Hamilton hospital and had another pericardial window operation and suffered another stroke while on life support. On December 2, Kelsey had a surgery to remove a blood clot 11cm near her right wrist and was told they may have to amputate her arm. They were able to save her arm, but she suffered another stroke and the doctors found 2 more blood clots in her brain.
On December 24th, Kelsey was transferred to the Welland hospital. She was awake and making conversation but was forgetting things but was working very hard to try to remember what she could. Daniel was able to come everyday to visit his mom.
On January 2nd, Kelsey went non-verbal again and was transferred to the Niagara Falls hospital for a CT scan under stroke protocol which came back negative but later found she had experienced a hemorrhagic stroke. Kelsey was put on a ventilator due to very rapid breathing. On January 3rd Kelsey was transferred to Welland hospital and was placed on a mini ventilator and her breathing was somewhat under control. On January 4th another CT scan show red she had suffered a 4th stroke. Still unable to communicate, Kelsey would continue to move her body but was unable to speak and was not able to see.
Her family has been by her side day and night and giving her all of the love and support she needs. She was a fighter right up to the end and was surrounded by all those that she loves the most. Her partner Paul Bolduc, whom she has been with for over 10 years was by her side for the highs and lows. Kelsey loved her baby Daniel-Leroy more than anything and she was the most proud to become a mom. Daniel will be raised and will grow up to love and appreciate his roots that came from both Kelsey and Paul and will be surrounded by tremendous love.
Your support will help Paul and Daniel to get through this difficult time without the lovely and beautiful Kelsey. Her smile was ear to ear and lit up every room she walked into. Kelsey’s soul will live through Daniel and he will be reminded by family and friends how amazing his mother was.
