Kelsey’s Cancer & Fertility Treatments
Donation protected
Hi my name is Paige Leone and I am fundraising for my little sister Kelsey Wear Berge who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Due to the aggressive nature of her cancer type (triple negative) she will be starting chemotherapy early next week. This fundraiser is to help ease Kelsey and her fiancé Jayson’s finances as they go through fertility treatments to harvest Kelsey’s eggs to protect them from chemo, which is not covered by insurance, and other things which are not covered by insurance such as cancer nutrition, cold capping or an amazing remy wig, co-pays, insurance, unexpected costs, etc. She will likely be missing work as a rad tech as well because her chemo appointments will be close to four hours long each time. You can read more about Kelsey’s journey below and follow her Caringbridge (Kelsey Wear Berge).
“As some of you may know now at the end of December last year I found a lump in my right breast. I was seen and had an ultrasound done but because of my age the doctor said he was confident that it was a benign fibroadenoma and to just monitor it or remove it if bothered me. We decided just to monitor it as the doctor seemed pretty confident and I wasn’t worried. Within 6 months the lump had grown more than twice its size so I decided to go back in and he recommended doing a biopsy, so on May 15th we got that biopsy done. On May 16th we had some news that I was definitely not prepared for that turned our world upside down. Just 38 days before we were supposed to have the best day of our life, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Not something you expect to hear at 28 years old. We met with the oncologist today and I’m going to have to start chemo as soon as possible. My oncologist was weary to even let me go through a 12 day process to freeze my eggs because of the aggression of the cancer and the delay it would cause for treatment. With that being said we are moving our wedding to this Saturday May 27th. My journey will start next week, I will get a port placed for chemo on Tuesday and a PET scan to make sure it hasn’t spread on Wednesday. We’re just asking for support and prayers as we navigate this process to kick my cancer in the ass. I know we have a long journey ahead, there will be good days and bad days but I’m ready to fight.”
