Kelsey's Weems Fundraiser
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Lisa Egbert, and I am creating this fundraiser (with the help of her besties Cristie, Ashley and her sister Alyssa) for my daughter, Kelsey Weems. She was diagnosed with Stage 3 Triple-negative breast cancer on June 21st.
Triple-negative breast cancer is a kind of breast cancer that does not have any of the receptors that are commonly found in breast cancer.
Think of cancer cells as a house. The front door may have three kinds of locks, called receptors—
• One is for the female hormone estrogen. external icon
• One is for the female hormone progesterone. external icon
• One is a protein called human epidermal growth factor (HER2external icon).
If your cancer has any of these three locks, doctors have a few keys (like hormone therapy or other drugs) they can use to help destroy the cancer cells. But if you have triple-negative breast cancer, it means those three locks aren’t there. So doctors have fewer keys for treatment. Fortunately, chemotherapy is still a practical option. Thankfully her scans show it has not spread further than local lymph nodes.
Kelsey will need 24 rounds of Chemo. She started chemo on July 13. (2 days after her 34th birthday) She hopes to have chemo done by Christmas or January, depending on how her body reacts. She will then undergo surgery to remove the mass and follow up with radiation treatment.
Kelsey is a wonderful mother to her two boys, Ryder and Jett. Ryder is ten and will be going into 5th grade. Jett is five and going into Kindergarten. Her boys are her whole world. Kelsey loves music, her family and friends, tattoos and vacations. She loves to read and play sudoku and Yahtzee. Kelsey is a kind person with a big heart and a fantastic ability to make me feel better even at my lowest. She always has the best words and advice. She is a fighter and will get through this with help and support from family and friends.
Kelsey will be unable to go back to work in the fall at Highland in Stillman Valley where she was a teachers aide. Her husband Ted will have to take unpaid leave to help with the boys while Kelsey is undergoing all of this treatment. Medical bills are adding up and just day to day bills will be overwhelming. Kelsey is way too young to be fighting this particular battle! She has supported many through their hardships and I know that many of us would like the opportunity to support her through this one. I am asking anyone willing to help to please donate. If you are not comfortable giving via gofundme, you can contact her mom Lisa, or sister Alyssa via private message on Facebook.
Please keep her and our family in your prayers.
And thank you in advance.
