Ken Stovall Medical Fund

This is my friend Ken Stovall and his family - I met him about a year ago at a concert I was playing in Hot Springs, AR, and we’ve just kept up via phone here and there.  He’s a nice, good guy, and it’s honestly pretty rare that I keep up with people I meet on the road, but I’m glad we’ve kept in touch.

He’s told me about his family, his life in Arkansas, and his newborn son who arrived in October, who he’s really proud of.

So I was shocked to hear this when I last talked to Ken:

He was at a family gathering a few weeks ago, visiting with his grandma and cousins, when he was confronted and attacked by his uncle, who unfortunately has a history of drug problems and was on multiple drugs at the time.  His uncle was trying to make him leave, and Ken was preparing to leave to avoid the situation, but before he could his uncle attacked him with a knife.  Ken responded in self defense, but received a stab wound and ended up in the ER.

Ken is recovering well, but had to spend 5 days in the hospital and lost his apartment.  And because of his injury, he isn’t able to work for the next 7 weeks while he’s healing.

As if having a newborn wasn’t expensive enough, this incident is obviously a big financial stress on Ken and his family.  I really want to prevent this from derailing Ken’s life.  Right now is a critical time for this family, and they need help getting into a new place and paying off his hospital bills.  So I’m setting this up for Ken (and contributing myself) to help them get the cash they need to get back on their feet.

So here’s what they need:

Thankfully, Ken’s insurance paid most of the $25K hospital bill, and the hospital itself, Howard Memorial in Nashville, AR, generously agreed to reduce his charges by half.  After all that, he still owes $4,000 to the hospital.

Ken’s currently staying with his aunt, and his wife and kids are with some of her family.  This situation is stressful for everyone and unsustainable.  And he has another job lined up, but he needs an address in order to start.  So he's located an affordable apartment and the initial cost to move in is $850.

So in total Ken and his family need $4,850 to get into a new place and pay his hospital bill.  GoFundMe also takes a percentage, so I've set the total goal to $5,250.  And if we raise more than that, it’ll help provide extra security and things they need to take care of their kids, and make up for lost wages.

This is a really attainable amount of money if a lot of people were to contribute just a little.  Please, consider helping these folks out, and thank you so much for your generosity!!
