KenCada Fundraiser
Donation protected
For my birthday this year, I am requesting donations in lieu of gifts. I am fundraising money for these two young sisters that live in Mombasa, Kenya. Selina and Ester Peters are part of the group of children that I was able to form a connection with while volunteering at KenCada International Academy. The girls have just begun Grade 1 and Grade 3 and it is my goal for
them to remain within a stable, strong and phenomenal educational setting such as KenCada. Selina and Ester come from a single parent family and live with their mother as their father abandoned them. Aisha (their mother) is a cook and cleaner who struggles to provide for her children.
KenCada has the most passionate, caring and intelligent educators who work to ensure that their students receive the best education. It is my goal to raise money for their tuition, so that they can continue to attend KenCada. Every child matters, and Selina and Ester deserve to be educated within this school and by these teachers, as I believe strongly that they will continue to strive.
In 2018, I was blessed to receive the opportunity to volunteer at KenCada International Academy in Mombasa, Kenya; a school co-founded by Greta Bartsch and Michael McGuire, in partnership with Hemed Mukui. Thanks to these individuals, I was able to live my dream of teaching students in a developing country. I was able to form the most beautiful bonds and relationships with extremely loving and kind children who were always so eager to learn, including Selina and Ester.
If you wish to donate, please note that all funds raised will go towards the tuition for these beautiful girls and any other projects that KenCada has for the upcoming 2020 year.
In connecting to this, I thought I would reflect on where my passion for fundraising began. In February of 2004, my sister and I began our fundraising campaign for Sparks Academy; a school located in Kabul, Afghanistan. This school was started by the late Dr. Roshan Thomas and her family where they worked to educate children. Through the years that I knew this remarkable woman, I was able to understand the value of education as well as the importance in working to provide all children with one. Dr. Thomas instilled a sense of open-mindedness, educating me to understand that there are children in other parts of the world that do not have access to learning or given the opportunity to be taught. As well, she inspired me to travel abroad and educate children within the developing world. We always talked about traveling to Afghanistan together and although we were never able to go with her to Sparks Academy, I carried her with me in my journey to Kenya. Although no longer here, she continues to inspire me in achieving my goal of educating children. I have chosen to fundraise money for Selina and Ester so that they can continue to grow, learn and have access to educational opportunities. These girls deserve to be in a school, where teachers have their best interests at heart.
