“A dream deferred is not a dream denied.”

Roughly 20 years ago while attending Florida State University (GO NOLES!!!); a spark was ignited within me to be a voice for the people. To speak for those who can’t speak for themselves and to stand up for justice and equality in the face of oppression by being accessible to the underprivileged and ill guided, who often fall through the cracks of our legal and justice system due to lack of financial ability to retain “quality” representation.  My dream is to become a professional and esteemed attorney that will be committed to serving my community and providing stellar legal counsel to individuals and families fighting for their livelihood and freedom, with a concentration on juveniles. To achieve this goal, I have been actively studying and testing for the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) for over the past year, although preparation really began about 5 years prior.

“Some storms are storms of direction and purpose not storms of destruction.”

What seemed like an uphill battle: First, missing my test score by 3 points to get into the local law school in Jacksonville, Fl. and then testing a second time and missing it again by 5 points because the requirement was raised, I surely thought my dream would never be realized or achieved in this lifetime. This would prove to be a storm of direction and purpose in my life, even in thinking that this storm was designed and sent to take me out of what felt like the fight of my life. See I have endured many storms. I lost my mother to cancer during my junior year at FSU. I lost my father the year before giving birth to my first daughter. I lost my oldest brother to cancer 5 years ago while preparing for the LSAT exam. I was also homeless for a short period of time while pursuing my undergraduate degree at FSU. In addition, I lost a close friend to the justice system who is currently serving a life sentence for defending his own life. I now know that all of these storms were sent to help build my character, strength, patience, and faith in GOD for the long and challenging journey ahead of me. Focusing on and developing a relationship with GOD has been the key to my dream deferred finally coming to fruition! After sitting for the third time for the LSAT exam in December 2017, fasting and praying for increase in my score, and standing on GOD’s word and promise…HE answered my prayers. I am so proud to announce that on March 5, 2018 I was admitted to the fall 2018 entering class of the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University College of Law as a Full-Time student!

Being the independent, hard-working, supportive, dependable, charismatic person that others normally call and lean on during trying times, my struggle to achieve this personal and professional goal at the age of 40, has definitely not been an easy feat. As a single mother of two intelligent, observant, curious, ambitious, and compassionate daughters it is imperative that I lead by example to demonstrate the ability we have as individuals to accomplish any goal that we put our minds to and work diligently towards.

“You have not because you ask not!”

It is said in the Bible that “you have not because you ask not.” I am appealing to FAMILY, FRIENDS, CO-WORKERS, CLASSMATES (VIKINGS & TROJANS), ALUMNI (FSU/FAMU/UF/UM), BISHOPS/PASTORS/CHURCHES, SORORITIES/FRATERNITIES, COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS AND BUSINESSES and ALL OTHERS…AS WELL AS, STRANGERS, CELEBRITIES, AND FRIENDS OF FRIENDS. With my pride to the side, I come as humbly as I know to ask for each and everyone’s support in financing my legal education while attending FAMU College of Law to attain my Juris Doctor Degree. If you find it in your heart to support me, I promise you would be extending your help far greater than just me but also to those whose lives I plan to touch, change, represent and save through my work. The pursuit of obtaining this professional degree is a 3 year process that will require me to relocate from Jacksonville to Orlando, leave my full-time job of 17 years while sacrificing my life and health coverage for me and my kids, as well as, being restricted to only working 20 hours a week, if at all during my first year of law school. I have included a screenshot of estimated expenses for 1 year of school and my goal has been set based off 3 years and unforeseen expenses and cost of living changes.

***Please help me reach my goal of 150,000.***

Any and all support is greatly needed, wanted, and appreciated! Thank you in advance for your support, time and attention. God bless you all!
