2020 was a heck of a year huh?? Well, the “2020 effect” hit home when our beloved “Mr.Kenny”, (as he’s known throughout the community), was diagnosed with Stage 3 Colon Cancer. As a family we gathered together, and pushed through. In November of that same year we were told he was in remission! (***Talk about a Christmas Miracle***) Our family was overcome with joy. We made it! ...or so we thought. One month later, Mr.Kenny had his final scan and labs and some things didn’t look right. We braced ourselves for the worst, and told ourselves it was nothing...it was a one off...It was the dinner he had the night before :-).

While we wish all of those were true, it wasn’t. We learned in February 2021 that Mr.Kenny’s Colon Cancer metastasized, and he now has Hepatic Cancer, also known as Liver Cancer. His cancer is inoperable, rare, and incurable. Like we did with his Colon Cancer, we’re going to come together as a family and fight, and make sure Mr.Kenny receives the care that is needed to live the highest quality of life that he is able to.

One thing we didn’t do before, that we are going to do this time is reach out to you all for help. We need your prayers and your monetary support during this trying time. I imagine if you’re seeing this page, you know who Mr.Kenny is, but if not...please allow me to tell you a bit our favorite fella.

The community knows Mr.Kenny as 1/2 of the amazing duo that make up La’Wan’s Soul food Restaurant. Mr.Kenny and his wife La’Wan Adams have been a staple on South Tryon St with their restaurant not only offering great food, but the comforts of home with the laughter that Mr.Kenny provides. Their restaurant has been a staple in the community providing employment opportunities, and a chance for people to learn new skill sets who may not have had the chance otherwise.

When Mr.Kenny isn’t running a restaurant with wife, or chatting up a storm with the various people he sees daily; he’s a loving father and grandfather. I know what you’re thinking...how?! How can one man do so many things this well?! I have no clue, but I’m sure it has something to do with having all the women in his life. :-) .

Mr.Kenny has 4 daughters; Dominique, Shavonne, Akira, and Kendall. He also has a granddaughter Madison. Being surrounded by all women will keep you on your toes, make you compassionate, a great listener, and all around upstanding human. I’d like to think the girls hit the jackpot with their dad, but he’d beg to differ and say he hit the jackpot with them.
