Kenneth Roy Austin, 59, of Long Beach, passed away on March 27, 2024 after his loss with brain cancer. Kenny was born on April 22, 1960 to Modene and Marvin Austin in Long Beach, CA. Kenny attended Millikan High School in Long Beach, and spent his whole life near his childhood home.
My father, was quite possibly the biggest Bronco fan you'd probably ever meet. In 2004, my dad took me to John Elway's induction into the Hall of Fame back in Ohio. He adored John and the Denver Broncos. My dad was so incredibly happy during that trip, it's a memory that I will never forget and cherish forever. Even through all the rough seasons, my dad still stayed true to the orange and blue without a doubt. I still remember as a kid, listening to him cheer and yell at the tv, -he even kicked a helmet he had down the hall when they lost a championship game. Might have not loved watching the seasons and sometimes swore he was done with the Broncos, but he still continued to watch and support anyway. Years ago, my dad worked for a company who distributed toys and would send boxes and boxes of toys to the equipment managers so the players could take them to local Children's Hospitals. My dad did this so many times just out of the kindness of his heart, with hopes that maybe he could just brighten their lives going through such hard times.
I'll never forget when the Broncos made it to the superbowl back in 2013 when they played my team the Seattle Seahawks, my dad gave me such a hard time about how they were going to clean the field of the "seahags". Now I won't go down that road again of who won, but I always liked to give him a hard time because of it. I will forever cherish my dad's love for the Broncos, and my love for football because of him. That man bled orange and blue like you wouldn't believe. My father always said, "when I go, spread some of my ashes over Mile High so I can always be there for the games."
In 2018, my dad was rushed to the hospital and eventually diagnosed with brain cancer. Doctors told me, if he came in any later the tumor that he had, would have killed him. The tumor was the size of a softball. After an almost 9 hour surgery, the tumor was removed but year after year, the tumors kept coming back. Surgery after surgery was done but eventually on March 27th, 2024 he took his last breath.
In honor of my dad, a donation will be made in his name to the American Cancer Society.
Funeral services will be held on May 25th at Wardlow Park in Long Beach, Ca.
