Kenneth Rexroth Historical Marker
Donation protected
This spring the Indiana Historical Society will honor the poet Kenneth Rexroth with a historical marker at the home of his birth in South Bend. Rexroth, considered “Father of the Beat Generation,” was born December 22, 1905 at 828 Park Avenue in the historic Chapin District, just blocks from the University of Notre Dame. The cost of the plaque is $2,200 and the installation by Burkhart Signs is estimated at $374.50. A community celebration is in the making. Many of you have pledged your support for this project. A Go-Fund-Me site will accommodate your contributions, which are tax deductible. Please consider making a donation to support this writer from South Bend who went on to international acclaim. The current owners of the home are in full support of the designation. Other supporters include Rexroth’s son-in-law, Andrew Leavitt, who lives in San Francisco, and Rexroth’s two grandchildren. For further information, I am including links to two South Bend Tribune articles about the effort to honor Rexroth. Thank you to all who pledged support earlier and all who can send contributions of any amount.
