Short version — my buddy Kenny's brain nearly exploded, and then his kidney almost fell out. Truth! Details below...
Hi, my name is David Perloff. I'm raising funds to help my dear friend Kenny Boyer (pictured with his daughter) pay his medical bills.
Kenny, 54, is a kind, thoughtful, gentle soul who loves spending time with his three kids and girlfriend. He's also a wildly talented and hardworking graphic designer who's addicted to bodyboarding in Ocean Beach.
I met Kenny in 2007, when he became the creative director and sole (soul) designer at PACIFIC Magazine. For decades, Kenny's designs have engaged and entertained hundreds of thousands of magazine readers online and off — from his time at Surfing Magazine to his decade at PACIFIC and beyond.
In May 2022, Kenny had painful headaches that made him visit the ER. Turns out he had a cerebral aneurysm, which required emergency surgery. Despite having health insurance, Kenny returned home from the hospital with a $6K bill, which he couldn't afford. He put the whole thing on a credit card.
In the face of his near-death experience, Kenny maintained a smile and a loving, generous demeanor for his kids. But he was hurting. He was scared for his family and himself (and his finances), so he kept working hard.
Flash forward to a couple weeks ago, when Kenny started experiencing intense stomach pains. This time, an ER visit revealed that he had polycystic kidney disease and an enormous kidney stone, which required immediate surgery. Long story short: he just received another $11 hospital bill ($3K cat-scan + $8K surgery and hospitalization), which he put on another credit card.
Kenny will work until he's dead to help provide for his kids. I want to raise $20K to pay off his (medical) credit cards and give him a moment of relief from financial pressures. I love this guy. He deserves a break.
