Kenya meets Canada

For the first time ever, an African women's team is competing in a U19 Lacrosse World Championship, Team Kenya.

The Women's Lacrosse U19 World Championships this year are taking place August 1-10, 2019 at Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.

This team of 18 young women and their coaches and chaperones (25 in total) are due to arrive into Toronto on July 22nd.

They are an extraordinary group of teenagers... great lacrosse players and full of life and fun, but some of them have faced the biggest hurdles you can imagine - from poverty to illness to lack of access to education.  In the last 3 months, 5 girls have been excluded from school due to unpaid fees (so Kenya Lacrosse covers it as the country Kenya doesn't have free education and many of these girls and their families can't afford it).  7 have been hospitalized for various ailments (which Kenya Lacrosse covers as well).  This is about so much more than Lacrosse.  This is about young women having a chance beyond their circumstances.

We are very excited to be welcoming them, however, their accommodation and transport for July 22-July 30th has fallen through so we are raising money to help with their logistics and accommodation.    We have been given a really good rate at Lakefield College (which is near the tournament) for the days leading up to it, but we need to raise money to pay for everything!  Transporting and housing 25 people is no small task.

In summary, it's hard to describe how special these girls are and how many hurdles and hoops they've had to jump over and through up until now to get this far.  They are so close to reaching their dream.

Thank you for your help.  For those of you on Stony Lake (just north of Lakefield), we will be having a meet and greet with the team on July 25th and you can meet the girls you are sponsoring.   Message and we will give you info on how to get here!

THANK YOU!!!!  Your contribution is really appreciated... take a look at @kenyalax on Instagram and www.kenyalacrosse.org and you’ll fall in love with these girls in a heart beat.

p.s. This also helps World Lacrosse.  They are hoping to apply to be an Olympic Sport for LA28, but need Africa's representation at a world event.  So after this, African women will have done their part.

p.p.s. Uganda was supposed to come as well, but they have had to drop out at the last moment because it's just so hard for them to raise the money and get over all the hurdles to get here.  We're really disappointed for them as our team often plays friendlies against Uganda.

p.p.p.s.  We'd love it if you would come to the World Championships at Trent and cheer them on.. here's the schedule.  We'll be at all of their matches!  https://2019u19wclax.wordpress.com/schedule/
