Dear Friends, Colleagues, and Community,

We are reaching out to ask for your support for our beloved friend and colleague, Kevin Dorman, who has recently been diagnosed with tongue cancer. On December 23rd, 2024, Kevin will undergo surgery that will significantly impact their life and career as a voice-specialized speech-language pathologist, helping transgender and gender-expansive individuals find their authentic voices.

Kevin is a kind, selfless, and giving person who has touched countless lives. They are also a devoted partner to their husband, Kelton, and a loving caregiver to their quirky parrot, JellyBean. Now, Kevin needs our help to navigate the challenges ahead.

Kevin Dorman (they/them) is a 33 year old non-binary speech-language pathologist and nurturing practitioner of gender-affirming voice work. Over their eight years of practice, Kevin has directly served hundreds of trans, non-binary, and gender-nonconforming people in the exploration and reclamation of their voices; they have also indirectly served thousands more through the co-creation and facilitation of continuing education opportunities for voice specialists providing gender-affirming voice work.

On Wednesday, November 6th, Kevin was diagnosed with tongue cancer. The treatment for this presentation will be aggressive and will incapacitate Kevin for an indeterminate period of time, including weeklong stay in the hospital (at minimum) and a great deal of therapy afterward. They will be unable to serve their community, cutting off their family's primary source of income and Kevin's primary source of joy, until they complete their rehabilitation.

By supporting them through this GoFundMe, you will ease the financial pressure on Kevin and their family so they can focus on recovery and navigating the weeks ahead.

How Your Donations Will Help

Your generosity will directly support Kevin and their family during this difficult time. Funds raised will be used to cover:

Medical Expenses (updated 12/24/2024):

Out-of-pocket costs for surgery, hospital stays, and follow-up care. Even with insurance, these costs add up quickly.

Rehabilitation and Therapy: Post-surgery speech therapy to help Kevin regain their ability to communicate and continue their vital work.

Living Expenses During Recovery: Kevin may be unable to work for several months. Contributions will help cover housing, utilities, groceries, and transportation for their family.

Support for Their Family: Ensuring Kelton can focus on caregiving for Kevin and their beloved JellyBean.
