Kevin Hines ALS Battle

Donation protected
My sister Kristen and I are starting this on behalf of our father Kevin Hines and mother Deborah Hines. Kevin has been a hardworking man his entire life, who is an outdoorsman that loves hunting, boating, just being out on the water or going to the dragstrip. He has been a great father, grandfather and husband. He has always been a person to stop and help anyone from flat tires to driving the 18 wheeler on hurricane relief on his time off work. He has been a truck driver with Metallix refining for the last 15 years. Last year everyone noticed Kevin was starting to slur some of his words, he went to the doctor and had multiple test run and only thing we found that may have caused this was extremely low B12, so he started on B12 shots and seemed to get a little better for a short period, test run by the neurologist were inconclusive. Just earlier this year he was able to push drums around in the shipping department, but around June we noticed he had gotten worse. By the end of July he was having to walk into work with a roller walker and unfortunately he was forced to retire early from Metallix on August 5th, 2019, which broke his heart. We went to Duke on September 3 of this year and they confirmed it was ALS. He was presented with the 1 Million Mile award for driving more than a million miles for the company. Luckily our mother was retired able to take care of him and help him move about, that included getting him out and onto his lawnmower, because he loves cutting grass. His als is progressing fast, it has progressed to the point he doesn’t feel like getting out of his chair, can barely eat and his weight is down to 123lbs. On our last appt at Duke Kevin finally agreed to having a feeding tube put in which is scheduled for the 23rd of this month. The estimate just for that one that procedure is 1400.00 not to mention all the other medical bills and all the household bills/mortgage that keeps my mom even more stressed out. Kevin has always said what worried him the most is what is going to happen to my mom after he is gone. Who would have ever imagined this would happened at only 54 years old. Our mother, Deborah, is and has been searching for a job, but now it has gotten to the point someone needs to be there 24/7 with him. We need to build 40 ft ramp or either get a lift to get a wheelchair in and out of the house and maybe a vehicle to transport him in. The little bit of savings is gone, paying medical bills and other bills, trying to make ends meet on half the income he would normally have made being out on the road. We set the mark at 20,000 not knowing what it will take, not knowing all the expenses, could be more or less. If there is anything left over it will be donated to the local chapter of the ALS association in remembrance of Kevin Hines. Anyone wanting to donate not using go fund me is welcome to message me or my sister Kristen Wooten. Any help is much appreciated.
