Kevin Hohnbaum Family Fund

Kevin Hohnbaum, a dear friend and co-worker, was recently diagnosed with glioblastoma which is a very aggressive type of brain cancer. The survival prognosis for this type of cancer is 6 months to 5 years with most patients living an average of 12 to 18 months.
Thankfully the term “most patients” doesn’t apply to Kevin, at least not in my mind. If anyone can get through this and come out the other side, it will be Kevin. He is already defying the odds with his infectious jubilant positivity and courage. His faith is nothing less than miraculous and has been an amazing thing to witness.
We’ve had a couple of pizza parties in the hospital and I never knew how serious he was about his pizza until now. Must be the Chicago boy in him.
I have decided to set up a Go Fund Me for Kevin because there are several things that would be helpful to him during this time, the first and foremost being continued healthcare in all forms. He recently bought a hospital bed for his house. There are no particulars, just want to give anyone an opportunity to bless someone that has been a blessing to others. We have no particular goal but I’m setting one at $15,000. Kevin’s daughter is starting college at the University of New Hampshire this fall on a volleyball scholarship, and they’d really like to take her up to see her new campus and watch one of her games. If you feel at all moved to give, please do.
I am including photos of Kevin and his family in some of his favorite settings as well as his BIO that he shared with his co-workers at the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis. I want to share it with you so that you get to know Kevin just a little bit more.

Get to Know Kevin Hohnbaum:
I was born in St. Paul, MN and with half my Mom's family (1 of 9 children) living in Calgary, AB (that's Alberta, Canada if you weren’t sure ), add in the fact my dad was an elementary school principal and had summers freer than otherwise, we spent many of those summers in my younger years traveling west to the Rockies, both on the US and Canadian side. Beautiful country out there, eh?

In 7th grade, we moved to Chicago where I spent most of my "growing up" years. To this day I say I'm from Chicago. How could I not when we had the 1985 Bears, the 1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, and 1998 Bulls (and Michael Jordan) to root for? Add in the fact the best pizza in the world comes from Chicago and it's a great place to claim roots. I graduated from Luther North High School where I played basketball as a shooting guard and set three-pointer records during my time (it was the first year the three-point line was introduced at the high school level ). Really though, I have a pretty good shot and am willing to take you on in a game of horse .
and here’s how that shot felt
After two years at Valparaiso University, I decided to stop incurring huge student debt and started working an entry-level office job where one thing led to another with computers, and was in a programming job before completing my degree at DeVry University. COBOL / JCL anyone?
I spent 6.5 years living in Arlington, TX (a suburb of Dallas and Ft. Worth) after marriage (we both needed a change from Chicago), where yes, we drove 1 hour, one way, to a northern suburb of Dallas to get pizza from a place that made it the Chicago way! We had to eat it in the car because it was a take-out-only joint.
We've now lived in Indianapolis for 21 years, where my wife Jenny grew up, and have two wonderful children to share our time with (Meredith 16, Aaron 13). Both our kids love to play volleyball so we spend most of our free time getting them to where they need to be and watching them play, which we enjoy very much. I’ve also shared my love for the Rockies with the rest of the family as we’ve had a few opportunities to get out that way.

I've worked at several smaller start-up companies where, unfortunately, we never hit it big-big, actually quite the opposite in the last couple of cases. I'm very thankful for the stability the Bank provides for our family. I also can't say enough about the quality of people I work with which makes working here a real joy.
Fun fact, I'm a licensed Realtor (in deferred status) and really enjoy the real estate market. If you ever want to talk real estate or pizza, I'm your guy.
