Kevin Lee's 2024 Paris Olympic Journey

Dear friends, family, and badminton enthusiasts,

I am reaching out to you through this fundraiser to ask for your support as I pursue my lifelong dream of representing Canada in badminton for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. This sport has been my passion since I was just a young child, and now I have the opportunity to take my skills to the international stage.

I completed my Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Calgary in 2020, balancing my studies with training sessions to improve my game. However, unlike other sports, badminton in Canada is not funded by the government and is limited in the national sports associations, even at the highest level of competition. As a reference, flight tickets cost $1,500, accommodations cost $700 and registration fees and additional expenses cost $300; one tournament averages around $2,500. To be a competitive candidate for the Olympic Games, athletes play roughly 15-20 tournaments a year.

Currently, my partner and I are ranked 45th in the world and have achieved great results such as winning gold at the 2021 Guatemala International Series, the 2022 El Salvador International Series, and the 2022 Canadian National Championships. We have also won silver at the 2023 Pan Am Championships and bronze at the 2022 Peru International Challenge and the 2022 Bendigo International Challenge.

To qualify and compete in international tournaments, including crucial events like the 2023 World Championships, the 2023 Pan Am Games, and the 2024 Thomas Cup, I need your support. The costs associated with training, travel, and accommodation quickly add up. By contributing to my campaign, you will allow me to dedicate my time and energy solely to badminton, without the financial burden that often hinders aspiring athletes. Your donations will directly support my training expenses, tournament fees, travel costs, and other essential resources.
