Supporting Kevin’s recovery!
Donation protected
Many of you know- but it may surprise some of you to hear- that our beloved friend Kevin and his beautiful family have had the worst several weeks of their lives—and it is not over yet.
In March, Kevin was diagnosed with a golf ball sized tumor growing on his brain stem and on November 9th he went in for surgery to have it removed. In the medical field, this is what we call a “routine procedure,” but nothing has been “routine” in his recovery thus far. A few days after the procedure, after he had already been discharged, he was rushed back in for an emergency surgery following complications and has been in the University of Michigan’s Neuro ICU ever since. The last 3 months have been traumatic for Kevin and his beautiful, strong girls who have not left his side to this day. Since that moment, he and his family have been fighting fiercely for his life. He has struggled with disabling brain injury, overwhelming infection, respiratory failure, kidney failure, hypertensive urgency and life-threatening blood clots. His family has dealt with the very real fear of losing their beloved husband and father—their rock—and the fear that if he survived, it may not be with the full use of his body, or worst of all, his mind.
I am so beyond relieved to say that by some miracle and against many odds Kevin is here. He is with us. He SURVIVED. Just as hilarious and caring as ever, he is motivated and determined as hell to make a FULL RECOVERY. It may seem as though the medical storms have ceased, but he is not yet out of the woods. Which is where you come in: I am calling on all forces near and far to help fund his continued recovery efforts.
Almost three months in bed has left Kevin’s body weak beyond comprehension. For those of you who know Anni, you know there could not be a better coach and therapist by his side to be sure each and every limb, muscle, and finger is rehabilitated to its prior function and full potential. What Kevin needs is therapy, and most critically the TIME to dedicate to therapy. Providing the proper resources and environment for optimal physical rehabilitation is very expensive—but that is where WE can be of assistance. They will require modifications for their home to be handicap accessible, medical equipment, and rehab equipment—all of which are costly and come in addition to extensive medical bills and living expenses without their typical income.
Any donation given to this cause will go directly toward supporting Kevin and his caregivers in an effort to help him make a full recovery. For so many, Kevin has always been the “gentle giant” and a rock for us to count on. For years and years he has worked tirelessly to help his family, friends, and community whenever called upon, often without being asked. Now it is our turn to help and support him during the fight of his life, for which the reward is priceless.
Donate if you can and please spread the word. A million times thank you.
